おじいさんは芝を刈りつつ猛スピードでスっ飛んで行きましたとさ

 

ホンダが2013年に、我々の想像を超えたクレイジーな芝刈り機を製作したのを覚えているだろうか？　この「Mean Mower（ヤバい芝刈り機）」は、量産品のホンダ製芝刈り機「HF2620」をベースにしているが、大型スポーツバイク「VTR1000Fファイアーストーム」から受け継いだ最高出力110psを発揮する1,000ccV型2気筒DOHCエンジンを搭載することで、芝刈り機としては素晴らしいパフォーマンスのマシンになった。

それから5年が経とうとする今、ホンダはこのイカれた芝刈り機にさらなるパワーを与えた。搭載されたエンジンの排気量は初代と同じ1,000ccだが、今度は「CBR1000RR ファイヤーブレード」の直列4気筒に変更。最高出力は192psと、旧型より80馬力以上もアップした。2014年に187.6km/hという速度を達成し、「世界最速の芝刈り機」として認定された先代を上回ることは間違いないだろう。

製作を担当したのは、ホンダの「シビック Type R」でBTCC（英国ツーリングカー選手権）に参戦しているチーム・ダイナミクスのエンジニア達。新たな挑戦を予告する動画を見ると、そのシートには元英国カート・チャンピオンの女性ドライバー、ジェシカ・ホーキンスが座っている。記録更新のニュースが届くのを楽しみに待つことにしよう
